LGBTQ+ History Month 2023
LGBTQ+ History Month is celebrated every February in the UK. This event promotes and celebrates the contributions made by LGBTQ+ people throughout history and aims to ensure their stories, experiences and identities are not erased. The event also stresses the importance of listening to the lived experiences of LGBTQ+ people to allow us to work towards creating safer, more inclusive environments for LGBTQ+ people.
Throughout this month, we wanted to highlight the experiences and contributions of LGBTQ+ virologists and microbiologists throughout history to provide people with the opportunity to learn more about them and their achievements. We did this via a series of blog posts and promotional twitter threads focussing on the lives of these scientists, as well as producing a podcast in which members of the LGBTQ+ community here at the CVR came together to discuss these stories and importance of ensuring they are not erased.
